Children’s Social Care

Wanting the best for our children in care

The council’s fostering service are always on the lookout for potential foster carers to help care for young people in Knowsley who are in need of a temporary home.

At any one time in Knowsley there are about 280 looked after young people, many of whom are living with foster families.

We’ve recently joined forces with 22 other local authorities in the region to launch a new recruitment campaign – You Can Foster. The campaign highlights the fact that young people in foster care have dreams, hopes and ambitions for the future just like any other child  – and, just like any other child, they have the right to be supported and encouraged and to be told “you CAN do it.”

I spent much of my working life supporting families through the many challenges that life can bring. Sadly I know that not all children get the start in life that they should. But when a child finds themselves in foster care I also know just how determined our foster carers are to support that child and help them go on to something better.

Our foster carers do an amazing job and it’s easy to think “I could never do that”. But maybe you could? With kindness and compassion, and a willingness to help a young person become who they want to be, you could foster.

Hopefully the You Can Foster campaign will make you stop and think. And if you have any questions about fostering, make sure you get in touch and find out more.
